AAW 2011 Symposium
Vendor Showcase and Extravaganza!

Demonstrators    Collaborative Challenge     Instant Gallery 2011 MAIN Special Exhibits
Being a vendor, I spend most of my time here. After all, over the last 10 years as a vendor, I have made some god friends here and get to converse with them over the course of the 3+ days.
This year we saw the unveiling of the Stuart Batty Woodturning booth. With multiple hi-def cameras and multiple screens behind the turner, it was pretty exciting. He is looking to take this effort in an educational direction and have a coven of turners doing videos.
Stuart also talked about his new sharpening system, which is an abrasive belt over some of the prettiest machined aluminum you may have ever seen. It isn't inexpensive, $950 for a single belt, roughly twice that for a dual belt, but still looks impressive.
Carter Tools (the bandsaw guide dudes) showed a captive hollowing rig, Doug Thompson came out with 15V gouges and tools, and if you were real observant, you could pick up little things like the Vermec sphere turning tool in the Woodworker's Emporium booth

Carter Captive System

The debut from the Carter Bandsaw guide folks into the turning world.Looks pretty solid, although I didn't turn with it, it moves super smooth.

The system uses a proprietary boring bar that has a flat bottom. Two bottom rollers and one top roller.

Here you can se the roller adjustment mechanism

Choice Woods

They had a great booth with rosewood logs too!

Thompson Tools

I have a soft spot for Doug. Couldn't get the tools he wanted so he started making them himself. Great product, great price.

Exotic Blanks

Great selection of dyed and stabilized blanks

Geiger Solutions Truing jig

Newly redesigned and now with laser engraving. Don has a nice selection of enhanced sharpening aids

John Jordan

JT Tools screw chuck

This is what I would call a new and improved version of the Glaser screw chuck. Machining is awesome (so shiny!) looks near identical except it uses a good size tommy bar to allow for removal

JT Tools hollowing system

Magma Lathe

Looks like they don't clean up at night, or at least it shows you the lathes do get used on the vendor floor

Magma rotating headstock

One Good Turn

Brian showed a whole bevy of tools here

Jeff Salter turning in the Stubby booth

Jeff pimpin his video

Mike Mahoney demoing the Serious lathe

Mike taking an overly large cut to show how well the motor and system can keep up

Stuarts both under construction

He had several people turning in the the booth during the weekend. Quite the setup

Vermec Sphere jig

IN the Woodworker's Emporium booth, they showed several of the Vermec products. Nice machine work
