Keeping one by your grinder will allow you to check the angle and make sure everything is as expected before or after you are done sharpening.

If you are regrinding or have a gouge too hot to touch, dip it in water to cool it down before putting it up to the plastic gague

]]> This negative rake box scraper has a unique cutting profile that makes it ideal for cutting the side walls and bottoms of end grain boxes. The small radius point at the bottom corner of the scraper creates a smooth transition from a side wall to a flat bottom. Made from nitrided High Speed Steel, it measures 3/4” across and9/32″ thick.

The bottom edges are radiused so that you can tip it at an angle for even more effective cutting. Sharpening just the bottom bevel maintains the nitriding on the top edge. The tang is rectangular, but will fit the 5/8″ collet

Use the corner to make a groove, and the rounded bottom edges let you roll it up at an angle for shear scraping. The stock is 5/16″ thick and a little over 1″ wide. Grind it at at a 7.5 degree angle to raise a slight burr on the top surface. Available unhandled. The tang rectangular, but designed to fit 5/8″ collets.
